What is Feeling?

This article is especially useful to intellect-oriented person.

Dictionary Meaning of Feeling
An emotional state or reaction. But this meaning actually makes no sense.

Actual Meaning of Feeling
The most difficult thing to do is to define feeling with words or language. However said this I am doing the same, because there is no other way than this to communicate via a blog. Kindly remember that these are only pointers for feeling, do not use this as knowledge to store in the mind. I don’t want to attach a meaning to it, I just want you to read below and see if some real feeling you get out of it.

Thoughts (Head)
Feeling (Heart)
Thoughts are Head Oriented.
Feelings are Heart oriented
Thoughts have been given to you.
Feeling is your inbuilt nature.
Thoughts – Conscious Mind
Feeling – Sub Conscious Mind. Refer Subconscious v/s Conscious Mind
Can argue
Cannot argue
The conclusion is in the end.
It is a process – you argue, you discuss, you analyze and then come to a conclusion
The conclusion comes first.
Then you can proceed to find the process – but that is the work of Head.
If you deeply think, there is no possibility to feel unless you think with the highest awareness.
If you deeply feel, you become headless or thoughtless.
Today’s world we are heavily dominated by thoughts (intellect-oriented)
Today’s world feeling has become more of a dead organ.
"Your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions, your sentiments, all are centered in your head. It is just a fallacy to think that your feelings are in the heart. Your heart is just a blood pumping station.

When we are talking about the empty heart, we are really talking about the empty mind. Buddha has used the word heart instead of mind because mind has become associated with the idea that it is only the process of thinking, and the process of feeling is in the heart, and the heart is deeper. "

Everyone needs peace or bliss. Till now, I have seen no one saying; I don’t want it. Except for a few people who say that if we are in peace then we will not be able to move forward with our materialistic needs in our life. It’s a big misconception in today’s life. Let me clearly state that you can have a beautiful materialistic life as well as peace/bliss.

Peace/Bliss/Being/Self/[Atma]/Inner silence is yours. No one has given it to you. You were born with it, and you will die with it.

The below diagram will show why feeling is important.

You need to come down to Feeling level from thoughts, then only it is possible to be in Being. Only very few people can come from thought level directly to Being.

Example
Honestly, even I used to think I know feeling, but this example made it clear that what I used to think as a feeling is actually only a thought. May this example help you to be in feeling…

You look at a rose and immediately say it is beautiful. Ponder over the fact, linger over the fact. Don’t give a hurried judgment. It’s just a routine thing, because you know a rose is beautiful, supposed to be beautiful? People say it is beautiful and you have also said it many times.

The moment you see the rose, the mind supplies you, the mind says it is beautiful. Finished. Now there is no contact with the rose. Without any communion with the rose… the mind didn’t allow you even a glimpse of the rose. Only the heart can say whether it is beautiful or not, because beauty is a feeling, it is not a concept.

Beauty is not mathematics, it is not measurable. And the beauty is not just in the rose, because to someone else it may not be beautiful at all.

The beauty exists in a meeting of the heart with the rose. When the heart meets the rose, beauty flowers. When the heart comes in deep contact with anything it is a great phenomenon.

Key Points

  • Don’t verbalize, because the moment you verbalize, you miss feeling.
  • Grow in sensitivity. When you touch, when you hear, when you eat allow your senses to be open. And don’t think – feel.

Wisdom Pointer:

  • “We think too much and feel too little.” ― Charles Chaplin
  •  Get out of your head and get into your heart. Think less, feel more.”  –Osho
