Meditation- FAQ 5

This is Meditation - FAQ 5 - Important Concepts

Do read :

Q: List some of the meditation or centers where it is held?

A: Every person whether they are enlightened or not take meditations. So there is no specific ones which are good or bad. All my blogs on Meditation will give you a window to understand and help in choosing the one suited to you.

There are 2 ways:
(1). Doing at home directly by playing meditation CDs/DVDs/internet etc.
(2). Going to meditation centers/resorts, learning and then practicing at home. Once a week / fortnight be in touch with these centers.
It’s quite possible that you may have been to some meditation centers. The only criteria is whether it works for you and you feel an inner growth. If not then thank and move ahead. Therefore I have the left the choice to you. Also refer Tips for finding a Master (Sadguru) which may help in your choice.

Q: How will I know which meditation technique is suited for me?

A: The Meditation technique depends upon the many factors i.e. age, gender, work profession, childhood, physique etc. But we can broadly classify into the following types of people irrespective of the above parameters:

  • Mind Oriented people – Start with Active Meditation (Body or breath)
  • Body Oriented people– Start with Active Meditation (Body)
  • Breath Oriented people – Start with Active Meditation (Breath)
  • Heart Oriented people– Start with Passive Meditation

This is a general idea. However it many depend upon person to person.
Because each of us is unique and at a different plane of spirituality.

Q: Any other suggestion which will help during meditation?

A: Kindly remember Meditation is a state and to realize it nothing can be done directly by external factors. However said that, if we know or implement the below points it will help us to be in that state. Also note that Once you have got a knack of being in that meditative state then these external factors will not matter. Now coming to those points:

  • Sit straight or lie down on your back. The objective is to keep the spine straight(horizontal or vertical), but in a relaxed manner. A posture which you can maintain in a relaxed manner for a longer time. IT is said that if we are able to keep our body in a still state, meditation becomes easier.
  • Having a soothing and clean environment.
  • Preferred to have fixed place.
  • Preferred to have fixed mat or seat which should be used only during meditation.
  • Preferred to have fixed time to meditate. Fixed time could be any time within 24 hours, but once fixed say 7 am to 8 am, then that time should be fixed. The reason is just as we have food on time, our digestive juices are automatically secreted at that time. Similarly   when we sit for meditation at a fixed time, mind also supports to be in meditation. We can also take additional time to meditate, but during the fixed time it should be done.
  • It is preferred to switch off your phones, door bells etc. in order to avoid external disturbance.
  • Do the Meditation technique with Unconditional Acceptance. E.g. even if your forgotten to switch off your phone and it rings, do not get up. Accept it is ringing and you have got disturbed. And then dive back into your meditation.
  • Preferred to have Surrender(ing)-The Important Key Attitude during meditation
  • Preferred to have Gratitude-The Ultimate Key Attitude during meditation.
  • Just keep our footwear in the right place when going to meditation places. Sometimes our mind is on our footwear, that whether it will get robbed or not.
  • I have used the word preferred, because all the above pre-requisites should happen effortlessly

Why to clap hands

I always used to wonder why in the east, people used to clap their hands while performing [Bhajans] or  [Kirtans]. We generally think it is to please gods. But to my surprise it was something else. The [Rishis] which we can also call as ancient scientist knew many art for keeping oneself healthy. One was by clapping hands.

Clapping hands is the simplest and shortest way to do Acupressure on the multiple points on our palm and fingers. And once we are healthy (body and mind), it is easy to connect with existence. Kindly read the article  Acupressure  and other articles on Acupressure, if you are new to it.

But there is a way and period to clap our hands.

How to do

  • Clap with both your hands, each of your fingers and palm of right hand exactly corresponding to your left hand.
  • Keep a distance of 1 to 2 feet between both your hands
  • The clap should be hard. Your palm and fingers should become pink/red.
  • We can also rub our right palm and fingers on left palm and fingers in order to touch all the points which is missed in normal clapping

How much time

  • Minimum - 5 minutes
  • Optimum – 10 minutes (Till your palms become red or pink)

When to do

  • Preferably on an empty stomach or 1 hour after breakfast/meals.

Key Points

  • Shortest and simplest way to do Acupressure without having any knowledge of the exact Acupressure points.
  • Do not do half clapping. E.g. Clapping with Right hand fingers on left hand palm or vice versa.
  • There are around 41 diseases which can be prevented or cured, just by clapping every day.
  • You can refer the points on the palm and fingers in acupressure. All those corresponding glands and organs will be healthy. Some of them are  :

o   Eyes
o   Ears
o   Thyroid
o   Lungs
o   Heart
o   Kidney
o   Liver
o   Pancreas
o   Intestine
o   Bladder
o   Colon
o   Thymus
o   Shoulder
o   Brain
o   Pituitary Gland
o   Neck
o   Sinus
o   Pineal
o   Appendix

Wisdom Pointer:

Always prefer to attend Prayers, [Bhajans], [Kirtans],[Satsang] or any other occasion where we can clap our hands. It doesn’t matter whether we understand the music/song or not, but do find every opportunity to clap.
