The Mind-Part 2

Continued… Kindly first read The Mind-Part 1

The past is in memory and future is in imagination, both are mind. Memory creates the illusion of continuity.

Mind being a slave of our desires and fears, becomes restless.

The mind, by its very nature, divides and opposes.

It is enough to know what you are not. You need not know what you actually are. All you need to get rid of the tendency to define yourself.

The mind cannot see the whole for the part.

Having said above, do not get confused that mind is bad or dangerous. No, it has its own good use in outer world (Also Refer Outer World v/s Inner World).

Let us take an example of Computer (Internet) in relation with Mind:

Now just think from starting that whenever a new thought or event happens and we have to take a decision we bank on this limited memory. It may increase as we keep on aging, but this is like upgrading our computer system hard disk from 1GB to 1 TB to 100 TB (still limited).

The diagram above clearly explains Mind can be used to access Limited Data (Mind-Memory) or Infinite Data (Existence).

Just observe your mind. If you are doing nothing (absolutely nothing), still it will keep on chattering (self-talk). Ever wondered why. Because unknowingly we were not aware when the mind was developing and taking charge of our “Self”.

How to be in a thoughtlessness state of Mind?
Once we learn the art / knack / technique of the following steps:
  • Drop Negative thoughts
  • Drop Positive thoughts
  • Drop Neutral Thoughts
  • We will be in a thoughtlessness state of mind.
Just as we use legs to walk , and  when we are not walking, we don’t keep thinking about our leg. Same is with Mind. Mind means thoughts. When needed use it, else be in thoughtlessness state (Simple to say, but difficult to be. But that is the key).

Additionally, In Inner world we should make mind our friend either by Surrender(ing)-The Important Key or Unconditional Acceptance or any other way you feel suitable. But remember Mind can never be controlled forcibly. If tried, it will rebel back when we have weak moments.

Wisdom Pointer:
  • Mind should be used for Outer world and Self for Inner World.
  • Self should be the Master and Mind the Slave. Today it has become vice-verse.
  • Mind is the biggest friend(if properly used) or the biggest enemy(if it becomes our Master)
  • Mind has a capacity to store vast knowledge, but it is finite. Connect with existence (like internet) by dropping the mind (i.e. thoughtlessness state) or connecting via Self (Meditation).
  • Do not conceptualize Self through Mind. If you do then it is imagination and not the real permanent self.

The Mind-Part 1

This is the First Part of The Mind...

We all think we know mind. But honestly have we anytime tried to enquire about our mind. Today let us try to investigate it.

Kindly first read my previous blog What is our Real Search?

There was no-mind (thoughtlessness) when we were in the womb. When we came out of the womb there was no-mind (thoughtlessness). Till 4 years Mind was used to experience outer world via our sensory organs. Memory started developing and storing basic data. After 4 years our personality (masking) started developing which can be also called as conditioning or conscience. Conscience means rules, behavior, attitude etc., official/unofficial given by parents, teachers and society in all to whomsoever we get connected or interact. They all started getting stored in the memory.  Then of course, our language, reading, schooling, learning, work, retirement (till you are dead) , gets stored in our memory.

In short just go through your life right from the beginning and just see how the memory is getting updated through thoughts.

Do not go over what is said in the books about mind. Also do not focus much on my grammar of my blog. Just start peeping in your own life. Keep your mind open.

Slowly our memory, one of the mind faculty  became a repository of words and languages.  Instead of feeling directly, we started thinking through our mind about that feeling. Example, As a child when we had ice-cream we will purely and naturally  enjoy it, but as we grew up we will start talking about it, like “Oh I like strawberry flavor” etc. This filter slowly started becoming so important that even the simplest feeling we will think. Even today people don’t actually feel, they think that they feel (seriously neurotic).

Give any adult a rose and ask “How is the rose”. They will say “It is beautiful”. They have a knowledge of the rose from their memories. Instead of feeling it Now and Here , they are describing it. The beauty is lost. I am not saying it is wrong, what I am saying is the purest feeling is lost in the whole process. A person with child’s innocence will not utter a single word. It will feel that rose as it is(Now and Here).

Mind slowly acquired following functions and became our master:
  • Main Function:
  • Thoughts
    • Neutral Thoughts
    • Positive Thoughts
    • Negative Thoughts

    • Memories.
      • Past Conditioning Experiences i.e.  Parents, Relatives etc.
      • Experiences via our 5 sensory organs and all the given below in Subsidiary Functions.
      • Our Reading, Learning  and Education

  • Subsidiary Functions:
    • Processing.
    • Evaluation.
    • Calculation.
    • Masking (Personality).
    • Imagination.
    • Thinking.
    • Perception (Recognition).
    • Expectation.
    • Anticipation.
In short our mind main function is of thought and memory. It is like a dictionary or repository (whatever you can call). This is filled up with only those contents which we have experienced via our 5 senses. In short it is like storing data in our personal hard disk / laptop etc. which is limited.

Now a few disconnected but important statements about mind:

Desire is the memory of pleasure and fear is the memory of pain. Moments of pleasure are merely gaps in the stream of pain. Between the banks of pain and pleasures the river of life (unconditional acceptance) flows. It is only when the mind refuses to flow with life, and gets stuck at the banks, that it becomes a problem. We think desires that lead to sorrow are wrong and those which lead to happiness are right

Acupressure

One of the surest way to be healthy is via Acupressure. I will discuss the key points which is very beneficial.

What is Acupressure?
Our Human Body which consists of Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space are controlled by the Electricity of the body known as Bio-Electricity {Chetna} which comes from the non-changeable Life Battery. This Battery has been installed in our body at the time of our conception.Out of this battery, Bio-Electricity passes in the body through Meridians.

Each Meridian starts  from the tip of each finger of the right hand, goes over all the body and ends in the toes of the right leg. Similarly with the left side. There are total 10 Meridians (5 right side and 5 left side)

If for any reason, the Bio-Electricity does not reach any part of the body, that part is malfunctioning accompanied by pain.

Acupressure is art of sending this Bio-Electricity to all the desired parts of the body.

Acupressure means the art of staying healthy or treating diseases by applying pressures on specific points with the help of one’s thumb or blunt things. There are around 900 points all over the body.

Where to Apply?

Palms and WristsFeet

Our Palms and Wrists in Hand(front and Back) and Feet(front and Back) till the ankle are like human switch boards. See the above figure. The ankles are not shown, but they are included. Also there are some other points on the body, but we will take the above only for discussion, which is the most important.

Example:
1. If you want to switch on the Light you will press a specific button (acupressure points). That button will allow the current to flow in the bulb(human organs). The bulb glows.

2. Suppose our wash basin gets choked. We get a hand pump, put water in the wash basin and keep on pumping with the hand pump to clear the choke/block from the pipe(meridians).

The above 2 examples throw light in clearing a choke/block in our meridians, via pressing the specific points on our human switch boards. This allows the current (bio-electricity {Chetna}) flow through these meridians properly and making the relevant organs healthy.

How to apply pressure?
Vertical Pressure by thumbHorizontal Pressure by thumb

Pressure to be applied by pressing with the thumb or first finger on the point  or by massaging that point and around it clock wise. We can use a blunt pencil or other similar wooden objects. The pressure is to be applied intermittently like pumping. No continued pressure to be done.

Do I need to study all points?
No. There is a simple way. Press all the points for at least one time. If there is pain on a specific point, it means the relevant organ is having problem. You need not know what it is. Just press the same point, where the pain is there for 51 times (maximum) or less if the pain has stopped. Then continue with other points.

Motto: If you feel pain, press it out.

Should I do it on Hand or Legs or both?
Any one is enough either both the hands or legs. It is easier to do with our thumb on our hands(left thumb for right hand and vice-versa) and there are some acupressure accessories, like slippers which you can wear and walk for feet. After taking a hot water bath if we walk with acupressure slippers for 5-10 minutes it will have a wonderful effect.

When to do?
Anytime in 24 hours. Only do not to within 1 hour of having breakfast or meal. During this period it is ineffective but no side effects.

How many times in a day?
One time only. But if there is pain on specific points, 3 times in a day for those specific points.

Any other pointers?
  • Left hand side controls the left part and right hand side controls the right part.
  • There are no side effects. But do not press points very hard and for a long time, just imagine if your do the same with our actual switch boards, the buttons may become weak.
  • In the end always apply pressure (10 times at least) at the center of the palm, which is the kidney point. It will flush away any toxins.
  • We can also clap hands loudly for some time in a day, instead of pressing all points. This is a shortcut method.  In India , the scientific reasons for doing kirthan/bhajans was acupressure.
  • There are other acupressure apart from the hands and legs mentioned above.
  • One Additional Point which is very useful to Activate our Bio-Electric current and remain youthful. This point is must for people above age 40.  Right Hand Forearm Center Point press for 10 times in a day. See Fig Below:

Right Hand Forearm Centre Point
  • More details of Acupressure you will get on internet.
Wisdom Pointer: Acupressure is one of the simplest, surest and natural way to be healthy.
