Yoga Asana-Surya Namaskar

Surya Namaskar

Today many people don’t have time to keep themselves healthy. It is very ironical that people earn to enjoy themselves, and when they want to enjoy their wealth, they are not healthy enough to do the same. The only reason they give is that there is lot of work, hence lack of time to take care of health.

Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is a combination of  12 Asana (refer 3.Hatha Yoga in Yoga–Introduction-Part 1.) which takes the least time to keep our body, mind and breath pattern healthy.

Key Point

  • Read the precautions given in the link provided below.
  • When we wake up our bio energy is at our feet level. After we do Surya Namaskar the bio energy is circulated in the entire body and our full day becomes lively.
  • We have to do minimum 2 Surya Namaskar and in multiples of two. Optimum for an ordinary person is 10 Surya Namaskar per day. For maximum, it depends upon your body capacity.
  • Approximate time taken to do 2 Surya Namaskar is 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  •  Also, when bowing down during Surya Namaskar, think as if you are surrendering (refer Surrender(ing)-The Important Key )to existence . It will help to develop Surrendering Attitude.
  • Do Shavasan or lie down for 2 to 5 minutes after Surya Namaskar.
  • Breathing Pattern, when to inhale and exhale is very important. Initially, it is ok, but after a couple of days synchronizing with breath is important. Then only the Body, Mind and Breath will be in a single synchronized line. This will help in connecting to our real permanent self.
  • If you want to move ahead in spiritual practices, it is preferred that the body is healthy and the spine is flexible and strong. Surya Namaskar helps in that.
For convenience sake, I have attached 4 links which will guide you in How to do and the precautions.
