Meditation – Sky

Today we will take one more simple but very powerful meditation called as Sky Meditation.

What is Sky?
First of all understand what I mean by Sky here. Sky means Space. It can be broadly divided into two (which actually is one only):
Outer Sky (Space)
Inner Sky (Space)
When we open our eyes whatever we see formless is called as Outer Sky (Space)
When we close our eyes whatever we see formless is called as Inner Sky (Space)
E.g. Sky (with or without clouds). It also includes space between Objects, persons etc.
E.g. Inner Sky: It could be initially dark, nothingness….
Sky is like a blank Canvas
Inner Sky is like a blank Canvas
It is infinite
It is infinite
Outer Sky has clouds.
  • White Clouds
  • Dark Clouds
  • Dense Clouds
  • Light and spread clouds
Inner Sky has thoughts.
  • Positive thoughts
  • Negative thoughts
  • Concentric thoughts
  • Neutral thoughts
When there are no clouds then the Outer Sky is Clear and Infinite
When there are no thoughts the Inner Sky is Clear and Infinite

How to do?
1.   It has be done outdoors where you can see the Sky.
2.   Relax and Lie down on a mattress with eyes facing towards the sky.
3.   Follow any one Option given below
Option 1
Option 2
See the entire sky without focusing on a single point or part of sky
See the entire sky focusing on a single point or a part of the sky
See the sky as it is at that moment of time
See that part of sky where there are no clouds at all
4.   See the sky in a loving manner
5.   Do not close your eyes as far as you can. Even if the eyes start watering allow it to happen
6.   Observe your thoughts (if any) and accept it as it comes. Do not fight with it. Accept it unconditionally and get back your attention on the sky.
7.   Do it for 2-5 minutes
8.   The close your eyes
9.   See your inner sky. Observe your thoughts (if any) and accept it as it comes. Do not fight with it. Accept it unconditionally and get back your attention on your inner sky.
10.        Do it for 2-5 minutes
11.        Again open your eyes and repeat the above (3 to 10) with whichever option you have chosen to do.
12.        In the end express gratitude to all.

How many minutes?
  • Minimum 10 minutes
  • Maximum 60 minutes

What actually happens?
The outer sky which is infinite merges into us and we come to know that we are infinite. A sense of expanded consciousness dawns on us.  All our depression, stress, tensions comes to an end as these attributes can exists only when there is finite environment.

Key Points
  • In a relaxed manner try to see those part of the sky where there are no clouds. We need to watch the gaps between the clouds. Similarly we need to watch the gaps between our thoughts.
  • Can be done by anyone at any moment of day or night.
  • Very good for people staying/working in cities or places where they are crunched for space.
  • The best time is just before the sunrise and just after the sunset.
  • Human being consists of 5 elements i.e. Fire, Air, Space, Earth and Water. Space is the most important and maximum attribute. In today’s time space element is the most crunched attribute due to the lifestyle. Therefore we need to compensate the same.

Wisdom Pointer:

  • Always keep your mind as bright and clear as the vast sky empty of all thoughts.
