Meditation - FAQ 3

Do read :

Q: Why Meditation doesn’t happen?
A:  We do Meditation, but nothing happens. Just check out the important points below. Maybe these are causing obstacles in your Meditation.

1. Ailment (Sickness): If we are sick, then our energy is focused on that part of the body which is sick. E.g. We have headache then our consciousness is focused on our head.

Solution :There are 2 ways of resolving it.

b) By Unconditional Acceptance:  Refer Unconditional Acceptance

2. Laziness of Body: Body becomes lethargic or dull although we are not sick.

Solution: There are 2 stages when this happens.
A) Beginners: Who have started meditation for quite some time. We should keep our body fit and flexible by right food, right sleep and right exercise. Remember that each person has a different structure, environment etc.; hence they should follow what is appropriate to them.

B) Advanced Meditators: Who have been doing meditation for a long time. They have also experienced different spiritual experiences. Only for some meditators this stage comes. It’s like switching gears of cars. At this stage most of them switch to their old gear. We should not do it. It’s a natural phase and it will pass away. Instead we should accept it as it is (Refer Unconditional Acceptance) and with our will power allow it to pass away at its own pace (refer Determination(Resolve) Meditation ).

3. Laziness of Mind: Body may be fit or not, but mind becomes lazy.

Solution: We should keep our mind fit by getting involved in creative activities which we love doing, like painting, dancing etc.. Also the above solution of point no 2. Laziness of Body applies.

4. Suspicion: To drop suspicion is not easy but quite possible as it is the Mind.

Solution: Initially have hypothetical trust. Then if you get results, automatically trust will become stronger and suspicion will be erased gradually. Also certain Breathing exercises and Unconditional Acceptance will help.

5. Negligence (Carelessness) : Self Explanatory

Solution: We need to take proactive steps in becoming alert and then move to awareness (refer Difference between Alertness and Awareness)

6. No Resolution / Determination. If we do not have any resolution or determination to do meditation, it is sure that after some time we will drop it.

Solution: We need to have a strong Will Power Refer Determination(Resolve) Meditation.

7. Wrong Notion / Concept / Belief: People have their own theory of meditation. They think its concentration etc. which may not necessarily be.

Solution: Accept that there can be other viewpoints which are real. Keep your mind open. The thumb rule is what works for you is important, not what  you think works for you.

Wisdom Pointer: Most of the points given above are about mind rather than body. The ratio is 90:10. So it is clear, take care of your mind and rest everything will fall in place.

Determination(Resolve) Meditation

Lot of people talk about being positive without understanding how to imbibe it in the subconscious mind. Only being positive is of no help. It is like a  good looking cake (subconscious mind) filled with shit and on the top there is nice looking cream (positive thoughts). Just imagine if you cut that cake….

Now coming to the point, we have many wants. The wants can be materialistic or spiritual. Some of them are very important to us. We take lot of efforts towards that, but still we cannot achieve it. Why? Because our thoughts and feelings carry that vibration which is still not drilled in our subconscious mind. Do read Subconscious v/s Conscious Mind

There is a meditation technique by which we can drill this in our subconscious mind and soon we will realize that our wants are getting fulfilled.

How to do it
Step 1: First think of a want which is the most important one to you and make a single line statement . E.g.
1.   I need to be healthy, wealthy and blissful
2.   I want a life partner (Wow…. 14-Feb is Valentines Day).
3.   I want a car
4.   I need to meditate everyday

Round 1 Starts…

Step 2: Sit Straight, Spine Straight, Eyes closed, Neck straight but in a relaxed manner

Step 3: Take a deep breath in completely.

Step 4: Hold Breath. Repeat the want in your mind continuously in a relaxed manner. Hold the breath till the time you can easily hold it. Don’t force yourself.

Step 5: Exhale out completely.

Step 6: Hold Breath. Repeat the want continuously in your mind in a relaxed manner. Hold the breath till the time you can easily hold it. Don’t force yourself.

Round 1 Ends…

How many rounds to do:
Total 5 rounds in one sitting.

How much time it will take:
In one sitting it will take total 3 to 10 minutes depending upon the lung capacity of the person.

When to do:
Two sittings in a day. Early morning when we wake up and before we go to sleep at night.

How many days to do:
Till the time we get our want fulfilled.

How it actually works:
When we hold our breath, at that time for a short span our door to the subconscious mind is opened. That is the time when we can put our thoughts into it. Subconscious mind fulfills all our wants. An example will make it more clear.

Let us say we plan (Conscious Mind) to wake up at 4 am in the morning. But at 4 am, we still sleep because at that time the subconscious mind is awake and no instruction is passed to it. The next day the same problem happens. Each day we plan and the next day it doesn’t work. But if we are able to pass instructions to our subconscious mind, we will automatically wake up at 4 am without an alarm clock.

Notes (including Precautions):

  • Hold your breath until the time you are comfortable. Do not stretch yourself. Everyone should know their limits.
  • Take one want at a time till it is fulfilled. Then the next want.
  • Do it with feeling, initially a hypothetical trust, that it will happen.
  • Want should be positive.
  • Do not ask for something which you yourself feel that it is not possible. E.g. I want to eat the moon or something absurd. It will not work.
  • It may take some time for the first time because we need to know the real knack of it. Once it happens, it will increase your trust and henceforth other want will automatically get fulfilled.
  • Start with a small want, let it get fulfilled and then slowly start taking bigger wants.
Wisdom Pointer: “Be aware of what you want, you may get it”.

Surrender(ing)-The Important Key

Surrendering

It is said that in the path of spirituality, surrendering or surrender is one of the main keys to know self. When I heard this for the first time, I felt it to be the most dangerous thing to happen. If we surrender to some person, that person can really misuse us. If we see today, the so called Gurus are using their disciples to achieve their unethical goals. If the disciples go against them, then they curse them and play all sort of negative mind techniques.

Having said this, let us see it from a totally different perspective from the Spiritual Angle:
  • Surrender is to someone who is outside us, say a person, Form(Object, Photo etc.) or Formless (which is invisible)
  • Surrendering is something on our part.
  • There is no need to surrender to anyone, you can simply surrender. You are significant, not the object.
  • People who are heart oriented can easily surrender than an intellectual person.
  • A Master is Master when he is not. He has achieved non-being; there is no one. Therefore surrendering to such a Master or Guru is simple as there is no bondage.
  • We can also surrender to God as a concept which is invisible. As it is difficult to visualize or understand invisible, we surrender to a Master who is living and visible.
  • Surrendering to a Master means surrendering to nobody. A bit difficult to understand intellectually.
  • Osho had said “Separation is Bondage. Oneness is Freedom” . We need to become one and experience the real freedom.
  • Do read my blog Tips for finding a Master (Sadguru)
Non- Spiritual Angle
We can also extend Surrendering way to our Normal Life which is very helpful. Once we are able to apply this attitude to Non-Action thoughts (see Unconditional Acceptance), life automatically becomes peaceful and blissful. Surrendering doesn’t mean to accept any unethical acts or wrong doings or  running away from the situation.  If understood correctly, it helps us to come in our present state of being. It also helps us to accept those thoughts, events and people which are not in our control.

How it works:
When we apply surrendering attitude, we release all our subtle negative energies / blockages from our system. There is a vacuum created in our subtle systems. That moment we come to our self. At that time, existence helps us in taking the right decisions.

What happens when we apply Surrendering Attitude:
  • We become calm, peaceful and relaxed.
  • We come in our present(now) state of being.
  • In this state, the thoughts that come to us for taking Action, are the best ones, for that situation at that moment of time.
Wisdom Pointer: In Today’s world, we need to be careful but definitely move ahead. Surrendering helps our energy which is focused too much on our mind center (thoughts) to come to our heart center (feeling). All miracles happen at the heart center.
