What is Meditation

To be honest, Meditation cannot be expressed through words or language. But below some pointers will help in understanding it; which will later on help in realizing it:

Meditation is a state of our being when we are connected with our real permanent self

  • We and our real permanent self are the same. They are not separate.
  • The only permanent is our real self, rest everything is temporary.
  • The Past and future (is a reflection of unfulfilled past) thoughts both are memories. Meditation is to be in this present (now) state.
  • It is when we go beyond mind (thoughts and feeling). We cannot conceptualize beyond mind through our mind (thoughts).
  • Meditation is De-concentration or De-focusing of thoughts. 
  • It is a thoughtlessness state of being.
  • It is an effortless state of being.
  • It is a state where we are returning to our real source.
  • It is the discovery of timeless factor.
  • It is the discovery of bodiless factor.
  • When meditation happens to us, we are in peace
  • Every experience is temporary. Even the peace which we experience in meditation is temporary. Do not hold on to any experience as it is past.
  • It is relaxed awareness.
  • When we are in deep state of sleep and are aware of our self, we are in meditation. 
What Meditation is NOT: 
  • NOT Concentration.
  • NOT Alertness.
  • Meditation techniques are NOT meditation. They are just the tools to reach our real permanent self.
  • Thoughtlessness state is NOT controlling or suppressing our thoughts. It is a state which automatically comes effortlessly.
  • Keeping eyes closed, sitting in Himalayas,  doing arduous postures is not necessary for meditation. Although it is possible in that state also, as well as, when we are leading our normal life walking, bathing, working, cooking, having sex etc. 
  • Meditation is NOT doing, it is "just being".
  • Timelessness is NOT unlimited time. It means to go beyond time or absence of time factor. Time factor is in mind only. It has come into existence because we have been taught about it since our childhood. Therefore it is a bit difficult to understand Timelessness.  
  • Bodiless doesn’t mean body will vanish. It only means we will feel the body so light, as if it is not there.
